(Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, the Soldier King, 1713-40, ducat of 1713, Magdeburg mint. Obverse: laureate bust right; reverse: the Prussian eagle flies toward the sun, initials and date below. Rare, very attractive, well struck specimen with a fine gold patina, extremely fine or better. In the year this charming ducat was struck, 1713, the Soldier King banned witch trials in Prussia. Torture and the death penalty were only permitted upon special order of the king.)"

Because 1713 was a transition year between two kings, an unusual number of ducats were struck (KM 89, 91, KM 114, KM 115, KM 116 (shown here), 117) in a country that normally struck little gold.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 3.49 g, 0.937 fine gold, this specimen 3,47 g.
