Sedwick Treasure Auction 36, lot 1387

This specimen was lot 1387 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $540. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, ¼ real, 1828/7, NGC MS 64, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Flatt, ex-O'Brien. Vividly rainbow toned over nice luster, choice strike, somewhat indistinct overdate (not listed in KM) but top grade for clean date too. Pedigreed to the H.P. Flatt Collection and to the John O'Brien Collection (both stated on label), with his tag." This type was struck at Lima 1826-56. The date is listed in the SCWC as common, tho the overdate is not mentioned.
