Sedwick Treasure Auction 36, lot 2027
Sed36-2027r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2027 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Cuzco, 2 reales, 1828 G, rare, NGC VG 10, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-O'Brien. Although KM doesn't note this date as rare, it is clear this is a very rare date given that this is the only example in the NGC census and with none certified by PCGS. Well circulated with a few light surface marks, even dark gray toning. Pedigreed to the John O'Brien Collection (stated on label), with his tag." This specimen is one of a series struck 1825-1840 at the Lima mint and 1827-31 at Cuzco. The date is listed in the SCWC as common, though all Peruvian minors are scarcer in nice condition than the catalog values would indicate. Assayer G is recorded for 1828-31. It was legal tender in the United States until 1857 for 25¢.

Recorded mintage: unknown but apparently very rare.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-141.2.
