This specimen was lot 40373 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, August 2026), where it sold for $18,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2-1/2 Pesos, 1892-Mo M. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-64. Rare last year of 2-1/2 Pesos for the Mo mint. This date seldom appears in the market. Very attractive with bright reflective surfaces. From the Kirk Menczer Collection." Zacatecas struck this denomination 1872-78 and 1888-90; only the 1872-ZS and 1873-ZS appear with any frequency. The type is recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Hermosillo and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The series, never popular, ended in 1893. This example realized thirteen times the catalog value.
