This specimen was lot 73142 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $244. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1837-Pi JS. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC VG Details--Test Cut. Rare. Tied with one other for only examples graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." The San Luis Potosi mint struck two reales 1829-30, 1837, 1841-46, 1849-50, 1856-63 and 1868-69, with a number of rare dates. Assayer JS (Juan Sanabria) served 1827-42. The SCWC lists the 1837-P^I as a common date. Other mints include Zacatecas, Mexico City, Alamos, Hermosillo, Guanajuato, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Guadalajara, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated.
