This specimen was lot 4244 in Goldberg sale 80 (Los Angeles, June 2014), where it sold for $1,528. The catalog description[1] noted, "India - British. ¼ Rupee, 1938 (c). Silver. Type II. George VI. Deeply toned. NGC graded Proof 63." This quarter rupee was struck at the Calcutta mint just before World War Two. No circulating coins were produced in 1938. In 1940, the coin was reduced to 0.500 fine silver and ceased production in 1947.

Specification: 2.92 g, .917 silver, .086 troy oz ASW.
