India 1936(c) 1/4 rupee

from the Mountain Groan Collection

The quarter rupee was struck for George V 1912-36 at Calcutta and Bombay. It is about the size of a dime but had 12¢ worth of silver. The 1936 is common from both mints. The absence of a dot below the lotus flower marks this as a product of the Calcutta mint.

Recorded mintage: 25,744,000 at Calcutta plus 9,864,000 from Bombay.

Specification: 2.92 g, 0.917 fine silver.
