Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42251

This specimen was lot 42251 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/4 Rupee, 1934-(C). Calcutta Mint. George V. PCGS MS-65." The quarter rupee was struck for George V 1912-30, 1934-36 at Calcutta and Bombay. It is about the size of a dime but had 12¢ worth of silver. The 1934 was struck only at Calcutta. The absence of a dot below the lotus flower marks this as a product of the Calcutta mint.

Recorded mintage: 3,946,000.

Specification: 2.92 g, 0.917 fine silver.
