This specimen was lot 2773 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $41.65. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, AE ¼ anna, 1936(c), NGC graded MS65 RD." The quarter anna was 1/64th of a rupee and was the largest bronze denomination struck under the predecimal system. It was struck in large numbers throughout the Raj until 1942. The 1936 is common.
Recorded mintage: 227,501,000 plus 61,826,000 from Bombay.
Specification: 4.72 g, bronze, 25.4 mm diameter.
