Sincona sale 26, lot 3512

This specimen was lot 3512 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 2,500 CHF (about US$3,088 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Reichstaler 1674. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. NGC MS63. Prägeschwächen. (Netherlands, province of Holland, thaler of 1674, rare in this quality, choice uncirculated, in NGC MS-63 holder, cleaned.)"

This type of 1606-93 evolved from the "prince's daalder" (Dav-8841) of the prior century. The type is listed fairly inexpensively in low grade but is very scarce in nice condition. These were generally weakly struck on bad planchets.
