Sincona sale 25, lot 2048

This specimen was lot 2048 in Sincona sale 25 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 13,000 CHF (about US$16,058 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"4 Ducats 1673. Knight in armour to r. with shouldered sword between the divided date. Rev. Tablet with five lines of inscription. Of great rarity. Extremely fine-uncirculated. Unusually attractive conservation. This multiple ducat was struck from gold owned by the citizens during the French occupation of the province of Holland."

This type is listed in Friedberg along with single, triple, 3½, and five ducats, all struck in 1673 as French armies approached.
