Sincona sale 66, lot 1719

This specimen was lot 1719 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 21,000 CHF (about US$27,647 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Province of Holland, 5 Dukaten 1673, Amsterdam. Geprägt während der Belagerung durch die französischen Truppen. Stehender Krieger zwischen der geteilten Jahreszahl. Rv. Quadrat mit fünfzeiliger Inschrift auf Verzierung. Unten kleines Wappen von Amsterdam. Randschrift. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Netherlands, province of Holland, quintuple ducat of 1673, Amsterdam mint. Struck while besieged by French troops. Obverse: standing knight divides the date; reverse: tablet with five line inscription, tiny arms of Amsterdam below. Very rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

The seige coinage also included one, three, 3½, four and 4½ ducats, all struck with one ducat dies.
