This specimen was lot 32270 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $16,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Holland. Provincial Piefort Lion Daalder 1676/4 AU58 NGC. A truly substantial representative almost never encountered outside of an advanced Dutch cabinet, struck upon a double-thick planchet and extremely well-preserved. Circulation issues of this type are generally accompanied by striking inconsistencies which are notably absent here, punctuated by perfect centering and decidedly crisp motifs. A most pleasing rendition of this iconic series likely to land in an advanced cabinet. From the Coenen Collection." Double leeuwendaalders were struck sporadically in the province of Holland in the seventeenth century with 1676 being the final date. It has a Davenport number but is listed in the SCWC in the piedfort section (KM P3, P4, P5, P17, P21, P22). The circulation type was nearly always badly struck; that this example is well struck is further evidence of its presentation status.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 55.36 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 41 mm diameter, 54.36 g.

Catalog reference: KM-P21, Delm-832a (R3), PW-Ho24.1, Dav-4857.
