Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73291

This specimen was lot 73291 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1766-IAP. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg III (George III of Great Britain). PCGS MS-62. Sporting a mostly light gray nature to the backdrop tone, this Mint State exemplar offers some enchanting hues of champagne, cobalt, magenta, and aquamarine, further augmenting its appeal. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1762-84. We also note KM 341, with an arms obverse/value reverse, dated 1766-IWS. Mintmaster IAP is listed for 1763-73.
