Künker sale 354, lot 56812

This specimen was lot 5681 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €300 (about US$418 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg I. Ludwig, 1698-1714. 1/3 Taler 1711, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Grube St. Andreas. Mit Titel als Erschatzmeister. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 320, Frankfurt/Main 1987, Nr. 1941. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George Louis, 1698-1714, one third thaler of 1711, Clausthal mint, for the St. Andrew mine, with treasurer's title in obverse legend. Superb patina, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in 1711 while George was merely elector of Hannover. In 1714, he succeeded to the throne of Britain. This type comes with or without his title of arch-treasurer of the empire in the obverse legend.
