Hannover 1711-HH 24 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 52224 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen, 1711. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. Georg Ludwig (future George I of Great Britain). NGC MS-63. An enchanting example of a wildman minor, this Choice specimen presents slate gray surfaces with some alluring brilliance remaining upon each side. Ex: Wolff-Metternich Collection." This type was struck 1698-1711 and is common. In 1714, Georg Ludwig ascended the throne of Great Britain and all the Hanoverian coinage was revised to show his new title the next year.
