The first specimen was lot 52223 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen, 1711-C. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg I Ludwig (future George I of Great Britain). NGC MS-63. A Choice minor from the popular wildman series, this specimen offers mostly lighter gray central fields that yield to some darker tone nearer the edges. Ex: Wolff-Metternich Collection." The second specimen was lot 55567 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen, 1711. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg I Ludwig (future George I of Great Britain). About Uncirculated Details -- Environmental Damage, Cleaned. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1698-1711 and is common. In 1714, Georg Ludwig ascended the throne of Great Britain and all the Hanoverian coinage was revised to show his new title the next year. The next issue of this denomination was in 1750.
