This specimen was lot 22678 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Third Reich. 5 Reichspfennig, 1937-A. NGC PROOF-64 Cameo. A flashy proof with hard mirrored fields, frosted cameo devices, and a few handling marks." This type of 1936-39 was also minted at Vienna ("B"), Munich ("D"), Stuttgart ("F"), Stuttgart ("F"), Karlsruhe ("G") and Hamburg ("J"). It superseded the Weimar issue of 1924-36 and was superseded by a wartime issue in zinc.

Recorded mintage: 29,700,000 (including a few 1936-A).

Specification: 2.44 g, aluminum bronze, 18.1 mm diameter.
