Stack's Bowers February 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74609

This specimen was lot 74609 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Third Reich. Reichspfennig, 1936-A. Berlin Mint. NGC MS-64 Red Brown. Reichsmark coinage. Ample red is seen on the surfaces of this piece, an example from the last year of the type." This type was introduced by the Weimar Republic in 1924 and struck in large numbers at six mints. The Nazis took over in 1933 but retained this design until 1936, when a swastika design was introduced (KM 89).

Recorded mintage: unknown but common, including KM 89.

Specification: 2 g, bronze, 17.43 mm diameter.
