This specimen was lot 75164 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Third Reich. 5 Mark, 1936-E. Muldenhutten Mint. PCGS MS-64." This type of 1936-39 replaced an earlier type of 1935-36, which lacked a swastika on the reverse. Though the size of a half dollar, its higher fineness meant that it contained the same amount of silver as the larger five mark of the Weimar Republic such as the Goethe commemorative (Dav-974). This type was also minted at Vienna ("B"), Munich ("D"), Karlsruhe ("G"), Stuttgart ("F"), Berlin ("A") and Hamburg ("J").

Recorded mintage: 870,000, a better date but not rare.

Specification: 13.88 g, 0.900 fine silver, 29 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-94; J-367.
