Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 44511

This specimen was lot 44511 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. 3 Mark, 1932-D. Munich Mint. NGC PROOF-63 Cameo. Bust of Johann Goethe left. A Proof with reflective fields, frosty devices, and a few light scuffs on the obverse." This type was issued at six mints along with a five mark (Dav-974) and is fairly common. It is the last Weimar commemorative.

Recorded mintage: 56,000 + proofs + 1,986,000 of KM 74 (value back).

Specification: 15 g, 0.500 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.
