This specimen was lot 24820 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $517.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Weimar Republic 3 Mark Magdeburg 1931-A, MS66 NGC, a gem with really beautiful original silvery white luster, a great modern City View issue!" This one year type, marking the tricentennial of the reconstruction of the town of Magdeburg after its destruction in the Thirty Years War, was struck in small numbers in Berlin ("A", shown here) only. It is too small to be included in our class of thalers.
Recorded mintage: 100,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 15 g, 0.500 fine silver, .241 troy oz ASW, 30 mm diameter.
