This specimen was lot 34107 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $228. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Germany: Wilhelm II Proof 1/2 Mark 1905-F PR67 PCGS, Stuttgart mint. A spectacular example of the type, currently tied for the highest certified by PCGS. While German 1/2 marks of this period typically come nice, it would be difficult for any seasoned collector of the series to find this Gem's equal: glossy iridescence replete with cobalt, crimson, and cupric hues fills the peripherals while the central mirrors turn from slate gray to blast white when rotated in hand. From the Feeling Good Collection." This coin is from a type issued 1905-19 from the Berlin (mintmark "A"), Munich (mintmark "D"), Muldenhutten (mintmark "E"), Stuttgart (mintmark "F", shown here), Karlsruhe (mintmark "G") and Hamburg (mintmark "J") mints. Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of two mark and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design. This date is scarce compared to the issues of 1914-19 which were hoarded.
