This specimen was lot 24789 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $1,610. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Adolf Friedrich 2 Mark 1905A, MS65 NGC, fully brilliant with virtually pristine surfaces and light toning in the legends. Very scarce type in this superior quality." The Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz survived the grand merger of German states in 1871 but was dissolved on the founding of the Weimar Republic in 1918. Its issues in the twentieth century were few and expensive today; this one is probably the most affordable.
