This specimen was lot 72211 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Gelderland. Duit, 1766. Harderwijk Mint. NGC MS-65 Brown. Despite exhibiting a minor clipping of the planchet, this dazzling example offers charming brown surfaces with some brilliant luster remaining in the fields and some hints of mint red accentuating the peripheries." Duits were struck in copper in Gelderland throughout the eighteenth century until the destruction of the United Provinces in 1794. This particular type was struck in copper, silver and gold 1758-68. The copper ones circulated while the silver and gold specimens were souvenirs or presentation pieces.
