Gelderland 1767 1/2 ducaton
This specimen was lot 473 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it sold for €240 (about US$309 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GELDERLAND Provincie 1581 - 1795. 1767, 1/2 Dukaton of 1/2 zilveren rijder, Silver Type IIb. Ruiter naar rechts boven provinciewapentje MO: NO: ARG: CONFCE: - BEL: PRO: D: GEL. &: C: Z. Mmt. boompje aan het begin van het omschrift. Kz. jaartal in cartouche onder het wapen. Kabelrand.NGC heeft op de slab dit stuk abusievelijk aan Holland toegeschreven. Uit de Ridders van Reymerswaele collectie. R Kleurrijke regenboogpatina. NGC XF40. (province of Gelderland, half ducaton or half silver rider of 1767, type IIb. Obverse: mounted knight charges to right over the provincial arms, mintmark tree; reverse: date in cartouche below the arms; cabled edge. Rare, colorful toning, graded NGC XF-40.)"
Half ducatons accompanied full ducatons throughout the eighteenth century. This subtype is listed for 1761-69, 1773-75, 1785 and 1790.
