Gelderland 1765 1/2 silver ducat
This specimen was lot 1468 in Jean Elsen sale 120 (Brussels, March 2014) where it sold for €220 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, GELDERLAND, Provincie, AR halve zilveren dukaat, 1765, Droit: Staande ridder n.r. met zwaard en gekroond provinciewapen. Revers: Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Zeer Fraai (Netherlands, province of Gelderland, silver half ducat of 1765. Obverse: standing knight with sword and shield with the provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the United Provinces. Very fine.)"
This denomination was issued in Gelderland 1762-65 only and is scarce. Half ducats are also noted from Utrecht (KM 116, 1761-83) and Westfriesland (KM 144, 1770 only).
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
