H3089-31134r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31134 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $7,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Republic platinum Proof Piefort 10 Francs 1985 PR70 NGC, Paris mint. A coin which ticks all the right boxes, pairing perfect technical quality with an absolute rarity verified by its mintage of 5. We note that some wisps appear over the surfaces, which seem to be as struck, judging from the last example we sold (which brought $5760 in August). Interestingly the actual mintage for this issue is unrecorded by Gadoury. Sold with NGC-verified Monnaies de Paris COA No. 0001." This specimen is from a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1974-87 altho some years saw the denomination struck only for collector sets. The precious metal issues were strictly for insiders and collectors.

Recorded mintage: 30,000,000 plus 120 in silver, 12 in gold and 5 in platinum.

Specification: regular issue: nickel brass, 26 mm diameter, 10 g, lettered edge.

Catalog reference: regular issue: F.365/20, KM 940; piedfort: KM-P951, GEM-186.P4.
