This specimen was lot 31129 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $6,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Republic platinum Proof Piefort 1/2 Franc 1985 PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC, Paris mint, An excessively rare modern issue from the Paris mint, confirmed to be the first of only 5 produced. Certified at technical perfection, for comparison the last example we sold brought $5640 in August. Sold with NGC-verified Monnaies de Paris COA No. 0001." This specimen is from a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1964-2001 altho some years saw the denomination struck only for collector sets. The precious metal issues were strictly for insiders and collectors.

Recorded mintage: 50,000,000 plus 80 in silver, 16 in gold and 5 in platinum.

Specification: regular issue: nickel, 19.5 mm diameter, 4.5 g, reeded edge.
