France 1982 10 francs KM-950
This specimen is from a type struck to commemorate the centennial of the death of politician Leon Gambetta. Along with this type was the regular Mathieu type (F.365) struck 1974-87. This module was last used in 1988 and the French franc retired in favor of the euro in 2002. The second specimen was lot 23497 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $68. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Silver 10 Francs Piefort, 1982. UNCIRCULATED. Weight: 22.8 g. Featuring the bust of Leon Gambetta. A brilliant and attractive Piefort with no toning or noticeable handling marks. Sold with certificate of authenticity #0690."
