France 1986 10 francs KM-958
The first specimen was lot 1827 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Cinquième République (1959-), 10 francs, 1986. Robert Schuman. Epreuve en argent sur flan épais. Flan poli. (France, Fifth Republic, ten francs of 1989 in honor of Robert Schuman. Proof in silver.)"
This commemorative was struck in nickel, silver and gold. The nickel version went into circulation while the gold and silver versions were sold to collectors. Robert Schuman (1886-1963) was one of the founders of the European Union, the Council of Europe and NATO.
Recorded mintage: 9,961,011 in nickel plus 20,000 in silver plus 6,000 silver proofs plus 5,000 gold proofs.
Specification: the circulation issue was nickel, 6.5 g, 21 mm diameter. The silver proof was 7 g, 0.950 fine silver, and the gold proof was 7 g, 0.920 fine gold.
Catalog reference: KM 958 (nickel), F.374/2 (nickel), Gad-825. The silver proof is KM 958b and the gold proof is KM 958c.
