This specimen is a one year type struck at the Paris mint. It honors Hugh Capet (king of France 987-996), founder of the Capetian dynasty. It was struck in 1987 along with the regular issue ten francs depicting the hexagon of France (KM 940, struck 1974-87). In 1986, the regime circulated an aggressively downsized ten francs (KM 959) which was completely rejected by the public; this issue represents a temporary return to the old module.
Recorded mintage: 19,958,656.
Specification: 10 g, copper-nickel, 26 mm diameter, plain edge.
Catalog reference: F.371/1, KM 961.
