The first specimen was lot 44402 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 100 Francs, 1986. Paris Mint. PCGS PROOF-66 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. A brilliant Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." This issue, an NCLT, honors the centennial of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty in New York City. It was heavily marketed in the United States. It was demonetized with the coming of the euro and now trades for bullion. This type was also struck in silver, platinum and palladium. The second specimen was lot 1249 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE: Fifth Republic, palladium 100 francs, 1986, Centennial of the Statue of Liberty, issue in palladium, mintage of only 1,250 pieces, ANACS graded Proof 69 DCAM, Scarce."

Recorded mintage: 13,000 plus 17,000 proofs plus 1,250 in palladium.

Specification: 17 g, 0.920 fine gold, 31 mm diameter.
