Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71445

This specimen was lot 71445 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Quart de Franc (1/4 Franc), 1807/6-Q. Perpignan Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS EF-45. Emanating from an emission that saw all of Perpignan's 1/4 Francs with an overdate, this gently circulated minor remains charming and wholesome. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Victor Gadoury in 1984 for $130). Ex: Gadoury (4/1984) Lot # 459." This type was struck 1806-07 with eleven different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. It is possible that all of the 1807-Q's are the 1807/6 overdate.

Recorded mintage: 9,707[2], a scarce date.

Specification: 1.25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
