Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43369

This specimen was lot 43369 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 5 Francs, 1807-H. La Rochelle Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS EF-40. Standing as the only such representative of the type in the PCGS census, this slightly circulated crown offers a pleasing, wholesome nature, with a mostly pale gray hue. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Bourgey in 1983 for $215). Ex: Émile Bourgey (11/1983) Lot # 312 (part of)." This type was struck 1806-07 at twelve mints. The subsequent five francs of 1807-08 adorned Napoleon's head with a laurel wreath.

Recorded mintage: 4,835, a rare date.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819).
