France 1807-K franc
This specimen was lot 71386 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Franc, 1807-K. Bordeaux Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. A RARE and very difficult type, this minor does exhibit some unfortunate cleaning, but still stands as an excellent representative with very little handling. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Patrick Guillard on 10 June 2012 for $3,562 [!])." This type was struck 1806-07 with 19 different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common and the 1806-L and 1807-L slightly scarce. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed.
