This specimen was lot 50409 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $301. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1709-T. PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. Louis XIII (1643-1715). PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder." Shown is a écu aux trois couronnes (écu with three crowns) struck at the Nantes mint in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. This is last type of écu struck during the Sun King's life. The type was struck 1709-15 in substantial numbers. There are also tenth, quarter and half écus struck during this period with this design. This date is slightly scarce.

Recorded mintage: 948,202.

Specification: 30.59 g, 0.917 fine silver, edge lettered "DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM", designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
