Sincona sale 43, lot 2205

This specimen was lot 2205 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$239 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"France, Louis XIV. 1643-1715 Ecu aux trois couronnes 1709 A. Paris. Gutes sehr schön. Leicht justiert. (France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, écu of the three crowns of 1709-A, Paris mint. Good very fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

Shown is a écu aux trois couronnes (écu with three crowns) struck at the Paris mint in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. This is last type of écu struck during the French Sun King's life. The type was struck 1709-15 in substantial numbers. There are also tenth, quarter and half écus struck during this period with this design.

Reported Mintage: 7,335,848[1].

Specification: 30.59 g, 0.917 fine silver, edge lettered "DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM", designed by Norbert Roëttiers. This specimen is 30.37 g.
