Künker sale 294, lot 3032

This specimen was lot 3032 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,887 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH, KÖNIGREICH, Louis XIV, 1643-1715. Louis d'or aux quatre L 1695, B, Rouen. Réformation. GOLD. Sehr schön. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, louis d'or of the four L's, Rouen mint, reformed. Very fine.)"

This type, known as a louis d'or aux 4 L, was struck 1693-1700, mostly over older coins. Twenty-six mints contributed in 1695.

Recorded mintage: 101,141 on "flans reformées," 2,899 on new blanks.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 6,70 g.
