This specimen was lot 52171 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/4 Ecu, 1695-X. Amiens Mint. Louis XIV. NGC MS-64. Virtually as-made with immensely bright, frosty white surfaces that hold flares of bright tone around portions of the legends. Flatly put, an undergraded coin, this example quite likely represents the very finest survivor of its type." The specimen shown is a quart d'écu aux palmes struck at the Amiens mint during the reign of Louis XIV. It succeeded the quart d'écu aux 8 L struck 1690-93 and was superseded by the quart d'écu aux insignes struck 1701-03. It is more common than either type and the 1695-X is a fairly scarce date.

Recorded mintage: unknown but all rf. No flans neufs are recorded for any mint in 1695.

Specification: 6.86 g, 0.917 fine silver, 27-28 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Joseph Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 691, Dr/2 № 414, KM-293.21; Gad-152.
