This specimen was lot 22114 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV gold 1/2 Louis d'Or 1695-D VF Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, Lyon mint." While louis d'or of Louis XIV turn up occasionally, the demi-louis are all scarce to rare. This type, the demi-louis d'or aux 4 L, was struck in France 1693-1700. There are no common dates and nearly all were made using "flans reformées" (older coins).

Recorded mintage: 54,676, all rf, a common date of a rare type.

Specification: 3.37 g, 0.917 fine gold, 20-21 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Joseph Roëttiers.
