Sincona sale 46, lot 346

This specimen was lot 346 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,800 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frankreich, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. 2 Louis dor aux quatre L 1694 A, Paris. Réformation. Sehr schön. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, double louis d'or of the 4 L's of 1694, Paris mint, reformed. Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1693-1700 and is probably the most common double louis d'or of Louis XIV but it is still rare.

Reported Mintage: 60,573 on new blanks plus an unknown number "reformed".

Specification: 13.50 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J. Röettiers; this specimen 13.36 g.
