This specimen was lot 99041 in Heritage sale 61259 (Dallas, TX, February 2022), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV 1/4 Ecu de Flandre 1694-W MS63 NGC, Lille mint. 1/4 Ecu de Flandre aux palmes. Flan Reforme. An exciting offering found in an appreciable tier of preservation and wholly Choice Mint State, decorated in a notable mint brilliance lightly muted by an airy patina." The specimen shown is a quart d'écu de Flandre ("quarter écu of Flanders") struck in Lille during the reign of Louis XIV. This type was struck 1694-1700 in limited quantities by overstriking older quarter écus ("flans reformés"), for circulation in the Spanish Netherlands. Droulers[2] notes this date as common for the type, but it is still seven times the price of a quart d'écu aux palmes. The Lille mint also struck the quart d'écu aux palmes, which had a reeded edge.

Recorded mintage: unknown but few[2].

Specification: 9.41 g, 0.857 fine silver, 30 mm diameter, lettered edge.
