This specimen was lot 22108 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV Ecu 1694-(9) VF35 PCGS, Rennes mint. Flan neuf. A rare type as a Flan neuf rather than a Flan reforme, enjoying thorough sculpting and a warm gold tone. We note a handful of adjustment marks across the surfaces, easily ignored in light of this specimen's problem-free status." The specimen shown is an écu aux palmes ("écu with palms") struck in Rennes during the reign of Louis XIV of France. This type was struck 1693-1701 in large quantities, mostly overstriking older écus ("flans reformés"). Some dates are very rare struck on flans neufs. It was succeeded by the écu aux insignes.

Recorded mintage: 82,714 fn plus unknown rf, a fairly common date.

Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, edge lettered "DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM", designed by Joseph Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 510, Dr/2 № 410, KM 298.24, Gad-217 (R4), Dav-3813.
