Heritage sale 3032, lot 24864

This specimen was lot 24864 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $5,287.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Henry VI (First Reign, 1422-61) gold Half Noble ND, Annulet issue of 1422-27, Lis mm (used 1422-60), London, XF45 NGC, a lovely example with clear details, struck on a full flan, smooth even wear, golden toning." The noble was introduced by Edward III as part of a monetary reform and was tariffed at eighty pence (6 shillings 8 pence) and was the first gold coin to circulate in several centuries. In 1412 the noble was reduced from 120 grains to 108 grains.
