This specimen was lot 40426 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/4 Noble, ND (1422-27). York Mint; mm: Two Lis. Henry VI. NGC AU-53. Weight: Annulet issue. A fairly RARE issue, especially when encountered this attractive, the present piece offers a charming strike on a full, round flan that has remained entirely original and problem free." The noble was introduced by Edward III as part of a monetary reform and was tariffed at eighty pence (6 shillings 8 pence) and was the first gold coin to circulate in several centuries. In 1412 the noble was reduced from 120 grains to 108 grains.
