Jean Elsen sale 124, lot 1495

This specimen was lot 1495 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €800 (about US$998 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, GELDERLAND, Provincie, AV halve rozenobel op Engelse muntvoet, z.j. (1602), Droit: Staande vorst in een schip met zwaard en provinciewapen. Revers: Roos met stralen omringd door vier gekroonde luipaarden en vier leliekronen. Zeldzaam. Lichte vouwspoor. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Gelderland, half rose noble of English design without date (about 1602). Obverse: standing prince in ship with sword and provincial arms; reverse: rose with thorns with four crowned leopards and four crowned lilies around. Rare, trace of mounting, very fine.)"

This one year type is rare. It is an imitation of an English gold coin (Fr-113) of a century earlier.
