This specimen was lot 3721 in Goldberg sale 67 (Los Angeles, January 2012), where it sold for $517.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands - Gelderland. Ducat, 1602/0. Knight standing. Reverse: Tablet with legend. EF-45." Gelderland, along with several other Dutch provinces, issued gold ducats from the sixteenth century until the termination of the United Provinces by Napoleon in the 1790's. This hammered style is listed for 1586-87, 1591-1614, 1617-19, 1622 and 1628-36. Many overdates exist.
