Jean Elsen sale 146, lot 978

This specimen was lot 978 in Jean Elsen sale 146 (Brussels, November 2020), where it sold for €180 (about US$262 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GRANDE-BRETAGNE, Henri V (1413-1422), AR groat, Londres. Type C. D/ B. cour. de f. dans un polylobe, avec une molette sur l'épaule. R/ CIVI-TAS- LON-DON Croix longue coupant les légendes, cantonnée de quatre groupes de trois globules. Rare. presque Très Beau. (kingdom of Great Britain, Henry V, 1413-22, silver groat, London mint, type C. Obverse: head facing in polylobe, a mullet on right shoulder; reverse: a long cross divides the legends, cantonned with four groups of three pellets. Rare, about Very Fine)"

A groat was fourpence and first appeared in the reign of Edward I. The groat was struck during the reign of Henry V but all seem to have been made in London. Various mintmarks exist but have not been assigned to date ranges.
