This specimen was lot 33572 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,320. The lot description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Henry V 1/2 Pence ND (1413-1422) MS61 NGC. A supreme condition for a type that almost always appears in VF and with problems. The top pop at NGC by leaps and bounds, wrapped in sumptuous polychromatic tones and still displaying original glow. From the Abbeygate Collection." The silver penny, the staple of commerce since Alfred the Great, began to be superseded by the groat in the fifteenth century. The silver half penny, tho still needed for small transactions, was an inconvenient coin to strike and was usually neglected by the moneyers.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.50 g, silver; this specimen 0.37 g.

Catalog reference: S-1796.
